“Time: Definitely Not Gold!”
“Time is Gold” (anonymous). That’s a very popular quote. I bet most of you believe
it is. But you know what? I don’t! Why? I’ll tell you. I could still remember
when everyone around me, way back in my elementary years, used to mock me of
being too slow in everything I do. When I do homework before, my mom used to
yell at me to do it right away because I might ran out of time. I just answered
her back, “It’s okay mom. Don’t worry I can do it perfectly even an hour before
my class.” My mom would just stare at me with her mouth open and then just
silently walk out shaking her head. At that time, I really could not understand
why I have to be aware of the time. I always wondered why I need to be
conscious of it when I’m just perfectly effective doing my thing at my own
pace. That was the last time I heard my mom scolding me about time. I’ve been
following this principle alone up until my mid-college years.
I thought everything was falling
into place according to what I perceived when I was child. Little did I know,
everything just changed with a snap of my fingers. I suddenly felt so bored and
stagnant with my life. It was as if I was not living at all. I was not happy
and was never satisfied with what I do. I was at my third year in my Accountancy
course in Silliman University, Dumaguete City. I was really so bothered of
something I didn’t know. Then I started skipping my classes. Too embarrassed to
face my teachers and classmates, I ended up skipping the whole semester that
year without my parents knowing about it. They were so far from me thinking I
was doing so well in school. They’ve known about it after I got hospitalized
here in Davao. They were so sad and angry at the same time. They asked me what
they have done wrong. I just cried. Honestly, I also didn’t know what happened
to me that time. Then my mom said, “--Time is Gold--, and you have just wasted
it.” Those words struck me big time. I suddenly felt ashamed of everything I
did. I have truly wasted so much time. Not to mention wasting a lot of my
efforts and my parents’ money. Those were the words my mom used to yell at me.
I have never felt so ashamed of
myself before. I really wanted just to disappear and never come back after I
realized everything. But my parents did not only make me realize how wrong I
was. They helped me realize I still can cope things up. They helped me get up
and move on with my life. Those months I got isolated at Solar Olutanga, one of
the islands in Zamboanga, really helped me reflect everything. Then I got a
call that I will be sent back to school at the University of San Carlos in Cebu
to start anew. I was so lucky I got that chance again.
Currently, I am pursuing another
career in life, I am trying to be a better version of myself. One thing I have
learned from those experiences is the essence of time along with the
unconditional love my family has for me. I may have stumbled so hard that I
thought I can no longer catch up, but with the help of my family and friends, I
know I can do this. I’m already wide open for their suggestions. I have already
wasted so much time but I’m now. I will fight hard.
So going back to the quote: “Time is
Gold” (anonymous), I still don’t believe in it for time is even precious that
gold and any other gems in the world. Its priceless! Therefore, I say, it
should not be put to waste. Time is definitely not gold—its more that just a
gold!

Let the “Iron Fist” From the South
Strike!
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte—hailed
just recently as the 16th President of the Republic of the
Philippines. He has been one of the most talked-about figure for almost a year
now—may it be nationally or internationally. But some of us may be wondering
how in the world that in just less than a year, President Duterte’s name went
viral easily. Even those from the remote areas worldwide know him. Who really
then is Pres. Rody Duterte and how did these all happen?
Pres. Duterte, also known as
“Digong”, was born last March 28, 1945 in Maasin, Leyte. Before he was elected
as the Philippine President, he was a lawyer, prosecutor, and a mayor in Davao
city. In fact, he was among the longest-service mayors in the Philippines for
seven terms, totaling more than 22 years in the office. He has also served as
Vice-Mayor and as Congressman for the city which really equipped him with more
experiences and expertise in handling people and making a city succeed.

Actually, Pres. Digong has a very
interesting life. We may have seen him today as one of the most
successful/influential politician nowadays. But he admitted his misconducts
when he was still young. But mind you, his pasts just prove us that he is also
human just like us. The amazing that is he did not let those misconducts stop
him from becoming of what he is now.
Aside from this, Digong has also
been named several titles. Some of them are “The Punisher”, “Donald Trump of
the Philippines”, “Dirty Harry of Davao”, and “Iron Fist”. But among these
names, it’s the latter term that I believe fit him well. No one can deny the ironclad
leadership he has used to manage Davao City. But its also the kind of
leadership that made Davao city recognized internationally as “The Most
Peaceful City in the Southeast Asia” from being the “Murder Capital of the
Philippines.” But of course, his ways did not save him from being the center of
attention of the critics. Recently, he is the most-talked figure in the
country, full of controversies along with all those praises. Several has
contested his ways and the effectiveness of his policies. But most of the
Filipinos chose to trust this man of principle. We can’t blame them. Most of
the Filipinos are inspired how Davao City was changed by the leadership of this
man. Most of us clamor to make Philippines like Davao City—peaceful and safe.
There are no causes without effects. Let’s just work hand-in-hand to help our
present president make the Philippines a safe haven for us Filipinos, our
children, and our children’s children. If it take an “Iron Fist” to achieve
these, then so be it. Let the “Iron Fist” from the South Strike!

Subject : Avoiding “Personal Affair” Visit During
Work Hours
Recently,
I have learned that the office has been reported having several people without business
purposes or whatsoever. This practice has led to some talks and brought some
troubles to the effectiveness of our office.
In
the future, would you please accommodate any personal visit from your loved one
and friends during your corresponding break-times at the lounge area? Thank you very much.
